A vast curve of sand surrounded by cliffs, Courance beach faces out to sea. Its swell makes it one of the favourite spots for surfing fans!
Blue Flag beach!
Supervision is provided by qualified lifeguards in July and August, from 11.30am to 7pm on weekdays, and from 11am to 7pm at weekends, depending on the tides.
Dogs (except guide dogs), horses and all other animals are forbidden on Saint-Nazaire's supervised beaches from 15 June to 15 September. (Authorised the rest of the year).
The name "Plage de la Courance" comes from the old French word corance, meaning a stream of water. The beach took its name from a small stream that used to flow there (Source: L'abécédaire des rues de Saint-Nazaire, Université inter-âges).
