  • Les Grandes îsles is a walk in the heart of the Parc de Brière, covering the communes of Saint-Joachim and Saint-Malo-de-Guersac. In these communes, each island is a village and each village is organised in a concentric, typical way, almost unchanged for generations.

  • Start: Car park on the Ile de Fédrun.

Discover the Brière islands on foot by following this walking route, which starts at the port of Rozé. After admiring the view from the Belvedere, the walk begins by crossing the bridge to skirt the Brivet and discover six of the seven islands of Saint-Joachim, located in the heart of the Brière Regional Nature Park.

Start your walk on Île d'Aignac before continuing on to Île de Ménac, then cross the small bridge to Île de Bais and Île de Brécun. Continue on to the island of Pendille, where you'll find the heart of the village. The walk then takes you to the island of Fédrun, a timeless place of wet meadows, reeds and canals, where you can spot many species of bird.

Admire the panoramic view before discovering the typical Brière houses with their lime-rendered walls and reed thatched roofs. You'll also discover the "gagneries", areas devoted to crops and the mill. Take advantage of your visit to take a barge trip with a guide or visit the Chaumière Briéronne and the Maison de la Mariée. The loop ends on the island of Aignac, before returning to Rozé. Explore the Brière on foot and discover its hidden treasures!

This 10.6 km hike takes you to the heart of the Brière world, sailing from island to island. You'll discover each part of the islands with its own specific function: the canal runs around the island and links the houses to the marsh. The "levee" is home to vegetable gardens and (in the past) peat reserves. It is divided into plots, each corresponding to a thatched cottage. On either side, they border a road that runs around the island. In the centre, the "gagnerie" is devoted to the mill and agriculture.
